Ceramic and Glass
The forms I used for these pieces reference the landscape, artefacts and structures of megalithic sites - places where the importance of the sun and the cycles of life were once revered.
They are hand built using a variety of clays. Once fired in the kiln, oxides are applied and they are refired - or they undergo multiple smoke firings until the desired depth of colour is achieved.
While they are still hot a coating of beeswax is applied to protect and enhance the surface.
A bright, contrasting element is then added. This is made from fused glass, fused dichroic glass or fused glass with the addition of gold leaf.
